The story of silk goes back a very long time. Thousands of years ago, it was the exclusive domain of the Chinese imperial court. From there it went on to become a rare and exotic import that only the very wealthy could afford. Today's silk is certainly less costly than it once was and it's no longer the case that silk fabrics are a delicate luxury not to be squandered on everyday clothing.
