Mulberry silk
Silk is an enduring and ethereal fabric that reflects the depth and richness of Chinese civilization. It is a marvel of nature. Carrying the knowledge and creativity of five millennia of Chinese civilization, its delicate threads are as light as a passing cloud and as thin as the fluttering wings of a silkworm. These threads have weaved themselves into the fabric of history.
The mythology and victories of antiquated monarchs are crucial to the creation story of silk. There is a legend that, long ago, after the Emperor had defeated Chi You, the heavenly silkworm gave him the priceless silk it had spun in a spectacular celebration. The Emperor was so taken by the gift's softness and brilliance that he hired craftsmen to weave it into beautiful fabrics and create clothing that was unmatched in both comfort and style.
The Emperor's clever consort, Empress Lei Zu, went one step further with her silk gift. Inspired by inquisitiveness and a wish to preserve this amazing substance, she set out to find the origin of this amazing silk-producing substance. Lei Zu searched far and wide for silkworms capable of producing such opulent thread. After discovering them, she cleverly raised them by gathering mulberry leaves to feed them, which led to the invention of mulberry silkworm culture. In addition to guaranteeing a steady supply of silk, this ground-breaking discovery opened the door for the creation of intricate weaving methods that would be inherited by future generations.
Silk was a divine gift, but thanks to Lei Zu's inventiveness and commitment, it became a booming enterprise that came to represent China's sophisticated taste, technological power, and artistic brilliance. Silk developed as an essential component of daily life and royal rituals, but it also acted as a bridge for cross-continental cultural interchange that influenced economies, fashions, and artwork all across the world.
Silk, then, is a tribute to the inventiveness, tenacity, and inventiveness of the Chinese people, who have weaved their history, culture, and goals into the finest strands of this extraordinary fabric for millennia.
Evoking the carefree lifestyles of jet-set utopia and the glamorous oases enjoyed by its members, our Poolside Silk Scarf delivers a captivating cocktail of laissez-faire sophistication.
Handcrafted from pure Italian silk twill, this stylish design features five different snapshots of the beau monde at play, enjoying fashionable, sun-soaked moments by the pool. The fabric is soft and feather-light, finished with finely rolled hand-stitched edges.

But don't worry-whichever one you choose in the end, it will surely turn into a treasured item that you will appreciate for years to come.
What are digital printed silks and how are they made?
It's not uncommon to wonder how beautifully patterned silks are created, and this is a question that we are frequently asked by customers. After all, the transformation from a plain base silk to a fabric with a delicate, detailed design is a remarkable one.
Digital printing is the technique used to do exactly that. If you are a designer looking to bring your artwork to life in the form of patterned and colourful fabrics, digital printing is the method that you need to seek out.
Since its introduction, digital printing has become the preferred method for manufacturers creating unique designs and printing them onto t-shirts, silks and other fabrics.
How does digital printing on silk fabric work?
While the mechanics and methodology is essentially the same as standard inkjet printing, there are a lot more stages and techniques involved in printing on fabrics.
1. Design
The process all starts with the artwork supplied by the customer, which can either be digital artwork or if hand drawn, can be converted to digital format. This opens up endless options for the designer, offering the freedom to work with a broad colour palette, as designs can be printed with as many colours as required. Designs should typically be created to ensure that they can be repeated with a seamless finish, and without any borders or break lines.
2. Pretreatment
Differently to standard inkjet printing on paper, silk needs to be pretreated before it's time to print. To ensure the best possible outcome, the silk needs to be coated to accept the ink and absorb the colour, which can only be done with the use of an external fabric finisher. The fabric will usually then be print tested in order to calibrate the printer to the correct amount of ink that the fabric can hold. It's important to get the correct balance here, as with too much ink the print will lose its cripness, and with too little ink the desired colour and brightness may not be achieved.
3. Printing
Once the fabric has been pretreated and the artwork is ready in the printer, the fabric can then be fed through the machine. The ink heads will be adjusted to the correct height before printing commences, in which tiny droplets of ink will be sprayed on to the fabric in order to create the desired design.
4. Finishing
The final step of the process is the finishing, a process which is the same whether you're screen printing or digital printing. It's important to take great care of the silk at this stage, as it's freshly printed and in its most vulnerable state. The silk must first be steamed to drive the bond of the ink to the fibres of the fabric, before being washed to remove the coating and any excess ink, then finally dried and ironed out.
Difference between Digital Printing and Screen Printing
Before the advent of digital printing, we used the more traditional method of screen printing, which is still a favorite among manufacturers and designers. The stages involved in screen printing require a high level of skill from the production team, as it involves many more steps than digital printing.
Unlike designs processed by computers, screen printing requires the creation of a stencil (screen) in order to transfer the design to the fabric. Digital printing can apply several different colors at once, while screen printing uses a different stencil for each color, applied one at a time to create the design. It is a more time-consuming and meticulous way of printing, but can create stunning results.
Screen printing generally produces more vibrant colors because the ink used is thicker than the ink layer of digital printing, making it the perfect solution for manufacturers to print bold and bright patterns on dark fabrics.
What are the benefits of digital printing?
Colorful Designs
There is no limit to the number of colors that can be used in one design, so you can print as many colors as you want.
Fine Detail
Digital printing is better suited for designs that require a high level of detail, as it is able to produce photo prints, resulting in more detail than traditional screen printing.
Minimum setup costs
Unlike screen printing, digital printing is easier, quicker and more cost-effective to set up. Since multiple different screens are not required, the time spent and labor costs required can be reduced.
Less time consuming
If time is of the essence, digital printing is your best choice as this method is able to handle large orders in a short period of time.
Smaller minimum order quantities
Since digital printing is simpler to set up than screen printing, manufacturers often require much smaller minimum order quantities, which is ideal for small businesses and those looking for one-off designs.
When choosing between digital printing and screen printing, it usually comes down to the individual design itself and the requirements that need to be met. Printers will usually recommend the most appropriate method for each order based on these factors.
